Default Data extraction using function code 14

Hi, does anyone have any experience on using function code 14(read general reference) to extract data from a meter? Can share about the steps and software used to extract the data?
Zenon have a function that can send specific command(driver command) to selected driver, is this can be used to get the data? Thanks

hmm, "function code 14" but in which communication protocol?

zenon functions 'driver commands' are typically to control the driver, not to send commands to a PLC. It depends on driver, but typically in drivers supporting write (command) direction - to send a command you have to create variable (and configure its addressing settings correctly) and then set a value to the variable.

Communication Protocol- TCP/IP or Modbus RTU
For normal condition, we can choose in software either holding or input register of the devices by inserting the correct register address stated on the datasheet in order to get data. However, how to read the data through function code 14 even I have the register address? Any software have the option to read the general address?
    Thanks.

In the official MODBUS protocol specification (see http://www.modbus.org/specs.php) there is no function code 14; not decimal. Could it be that this "14" is hexadecimal - 0x14? Then decimal 20 - "Read File Record" function; very specific function supported in MODBUS_Energy driver.

zenon MODBUS drivers - MODRTU und MOBDUS_Energy - are supporting only officially known function codes.
