Thread: Communication with same LN/Net address/Driver name

Ausrufezeichen Communication with same LN/Net address/Driver name

    Hello Support,

I have more than 10 substations separately working fine, and each have almost same IED (relay) communicating over IEC 61850, Each substations have almost same I/Os.  In each substations/IED LN, net address &
driver name are same as compared to other stations, only IP address are different. Now we want to connect a ring network & connect each substation in a ring loop.  My doubt is, it will communicate or there will be issue.
Because All LN, net address & driver name are same.
    Thank you.

There will be NO problem because of such similarities. In IEC 61850 protocol the client-server communication (MMS) is pear-to-pear, so as long you are not trying to connect with 2 different IEDs having exactly the same IP address and IP Port, there would be no conflicts. So you can for sure communicate with e.g. 1000 absolutely identical IEDs, via drivers with same names and/or Net Address settings, if only IP address of IED is unique in the scope of TCP Network.
And - if you are not trying to configure in one driver instance two connections with the same Net Address setting.

In zenon project - if you decide to place all 10 substation projects into single Integration project (do you?) - this will also work. So even if your substation projects have variables with the same names - the integration project is distinguishing variables via prefix with project name. Note: zenon Editor forces the use of projects with different names; thus unique.

Example: assuming you have 10 identical substations, each substation contains 50 IEDs and own zenon project. zenon Projects are made as copies of the same first project:
    - project names: SUB_A, SUB_B, ... etc.; in zenon Network settings configured to use different PCs names as 'Server' (primary network server and standby), the rest of project identical.
    - driver in a project: 'IEC61850 driver' with connections numerated using 'Net Address' 1 to 50; each to IED with different IP address.
    - variables in a project: IED01_Mod_stVal, IED02_Mod_stVal, ... etc.; with identical 'Symbolic Addresses' (and 'Net Address' 1 to 50).
then you can place all those projects as sub-projects in an I-Project, e.g. project with name "RING" (typically 'standalone', without own process drivers).

An eventual conflict in the ring (but not related to iec850 driver in zenon) could be then only on GOOSE, depends on IT infrastructure. GOOSE is the multicast, not peer-to-peer, thus each IED sending GOOSE (publisher) in the same domain/VLAN, has to use unique APPID number. Else the GOOSE subscribers get problem to handle in general, or to handle fast enough, received messages.
Eventual performance issues in the IT infrastructure?

    Hello Support!

I have the same issue as @AZAMI. However, in my case, the IP addresses are the same. For example:

    Sub_A; IED_1: 192.186.1.11
    Sub_B; IED_1: 192.186.1.11

Is there any possible way to make this work by avoiding and modification in the IEDs themselves? Like is it possible to set the communication by differentiating the net addresses or TCP ports instead of IPs?

Do you really have in the one subnet of the ethernet network 2 devices (2 IEDs) with the same IP address? HOW?

Actually these are tow separate network, but then we were asked to centralize them.

In a subnet of the Ethernet network each device must have unique IP. These are basic rules of Ethernet, nothing to look for solutions in zenon or other applications.
zenon TCP and UDP basing driver's prerequisites are properly working Ethernet.
