How does one display string variables from a Step 7 program?

If you want to display them in a picture, you can use the dynamic element "Link Text.." (either from the toolbox or from the menu "Dynamic elements".

You can use string variables also in archives, reports, reaction matrices, allocations, the variable status test window, etc. etc.

String variables can for example also be used in dynamic limit texts. E.g. when you have a boolean variable as an alarm, you could enter the alarm in the list with the content of a string variable in the alarm text.
