    Default Events using IEC61850 driver

    Hello Support,

Following is the requirement of one of our customers, please advise..

There is a need to see events that happen in less than 1 second time
by normal IEC61850 polliing, the events only appear after 1 or 2 seconds duration
but it is requested by customer to see the events at the same moment when they come.

    Thanks and best regards

    Hi yara,

To ensure that no events are lost, you can configure report control blocks (unbuffered reports / buffered reports) in your IEC61850 server. This is common practice in IEC61850 IEDs.

The zenon IEC61850 client driver can subscribe to such reports, either automatically or by manual configuration, and it will receive a spontaneous message from the IEC61850 IED whenever a value, status or timestamp changes (depending on the configuration of your data types, the data set and the report control block itself, in the IEC61850 IED)

So in addition to "normal" polling, the zenon IEC61850 client driver receives spontaneous messages for changes. In fact it is more common to use buffered / unbuffered reports for communication than doing classic polling.

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Dear Support,

    Thank you for your replay,

You said that the zenon IEC61850 client driver can subscribe to such reports, either automatically or by manual configuration...

can you tell me how to do the configuration?

    Thanks in advance

    Dear Yara,

Have you completely read the driver manual for the iec850.exe driver?

How to configure e.g. the setting for the maximum automatically activtated URCBs is explained pretty well.

Also how to browse your IED for reports, and create them in the driver confguration, so these are always activated, is also explained.

Perhaps you start there, and ask any specific questions here when you get stuck

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hello Support,

    Thank you for your support.

    I have questions :

Do we need to configure RCB (Buffered and UnBuffered) in IEC61850 server, or we can only configure it in client side and still we can active this option?

When I am configuring static RCB assignments and dynamic Data Sets, i can not see the variable list in the select variable window, is there any property settings we have to configure in order to brows it?

Thank you for your support .

The Client can only enable (use) RCBs already existing on Server. According the IEC61850 Standard all Servers are configured by SCL-files. So please check in the SCL-file of your Server if it has some Report Control Blocks. The IEC61850 Standard assumes that everyone working with this protocol must know at least such "basics" like IED's data model represented in SCL-file.

Before you configure the use of dynamic Data Sets please check if the Server supports it; else leave it empty. The information if the Severs supports it you can find in ... SCL-file.

    >I am configuring static RCB assignments and dynamic Data Sets, i can not see the variable list in the select variable window

Like documented in Help the list is empty when there are no *[ST] nor *[MX] variables in your zenon project (only ST|MX data can be reported).

As you probably already noticed the IEC61850 Standard is complex as it is very sophisticated protocol. It is really worth first attend a dedicated training. The Forum, even when we would trying our best, is not effective way to start.
