Thread: Free memory (%) variable - for what kind of memory?

Default Free memory (%) variable - for what kind of memory?

    Hello, support team!

Now we playing with Hardware resources variables of SYSDRV driver.
Free memory (KB) value is equal with windows task manager physical memory available value in MB - we have not any question about it.
Free memory (%) is much greather then 100% - task manager physical memory available value in %.
So question is - what value shows this variable (Free memory (%))? Does it include virtual memory available?

    Hi stolyarov_as,

Could you provide some more Information on your environment?

    - which Windows Version are you using?
    - which Windows Edition are you using? (32 bit or 64 bit)
    - which zenon Version are you using?
    - when using zenon 7.10, which runtime (32 bit or 64 bit) are you using?
    - how much RAM does the System have installed?

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hi markclemens.

    I checked this on both 6.51 Build14 and 7.00 Build5.
    I use Windows 7 32bit.
And my PC has 4 GB of RAM.

1 490 000 value Free memory (KB) was in same time as 71 value of Free memory (%) (windows system monitor shows 55%)
1 000 000 KB was in same time as 48% (windows system monitor shows 71%)
640 000 KB was in same time as 30% (windows system monitor shows 82%)

I can only suppose that 100% is about 2GB but not understand why.

Default AW: Free memory (%) variable - for what kind of memory?

    Hi,

i did some tests/research and came to the following conclusion:

Name:	mem.PNG
Views:	24
Size:	79.8 KB
ID:	1053

zenon shows 69% free - Windows shows 30% used -> OK
Available memory is the same in zenon and Windows -> OK

See here for the description of available/free memory:
    http://brandonlive.com/2010/02/21/me...-in-windows-7/

Can you check this with your configuration?

    Regards,
    Bernhard

    Hi bernhardf,

In attachment there are my detailed test/research.

And I'm still not understand why V460 shows such % values.

It looks like you calculate % as sum of cashed+available+free divided to 4192 MB of total phisical memory of 4GB (instead of 3,5GB available Total memory shown on process monitor screenshots).
