Default Zenon 6.51 vs Windows CE licensed in runtime in Zenon7.0

Is it possible to upload an HMI program created in Zenon 6.51 licensed(runtime & editor) to Brodersen RTU embedded with windows CE 5.0 which have a licensed of Zenon 7.0 (runtime only)?
We have Gas plant project and we would like to sure if this condition is working.
Your technical answer is highly appreciated.

    Hi,

Runtime files created with the editor do store the version information, however are locked to a certain license. It is possible with a newer runtime to use runtime files that were created with an older version of the editor. So the answer in this case is yes, you can use the runtime files created with a 6.51 in a zenon 7 runtime.

For the other way around to work, you need to change a setting in your project properties. If you for example wanted to use a 6.51 editor project and want to run it on a device with a 6.22 SP1 runtime, you can change a project property "compile rt files for" from default (6.51) to e.g. 6.22 SP1. In this case of course, features that are new in 6.51 will not be available in the 6.22 SP1 runtime, however the project itself will work fine.

Whenever you are ready to take the next step, you can obtain an update for your 6.51 editor license to a version 7.00 editor license, and convert your project, and then can utilize all new features that are available with zenon 7.00.

    I hope this is helpful!

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hello Mark,

Thank you for your technical answer. This will help us a lot to our project.

I have another inquiry. Because this is our first time to used Brodersen RTU with Zenon, can you give procedures/steps on how HMI created be run alone in this RTU? Is there any other file/s or software needed to be installed in RTU?

Brodersen RTU has only 128MB CF card.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ron

    Hi Ron,

a 128 MB CF card should be more than sufficient for the zenon runtime and the zenon runtime files.

You said earlier, that you have a license for zenon 7.0 for this RTU. Does this also mean that zenon 7.0 is already installed on this RTU?

If this is the case, you can connect the RTU to the network, start the application "syssrvce.exe" from where the zenon 7.0 runtime is installed, choose TCP/IP if it is not already selected by default, and then you are ready to connect.

In your zenon 6.51 editor, configure remote transport in the project properties (category "genaral" and setup the IP-address or device name of the RTU. Then in the next step, establish a remote transport connection to the RTU. After that, transport all runtime files, set the startup project, and you are ready to start the zenon 7.0 runtime remotely on the RTU via remote transport in your zenon 6.51 editor. Before you transport your files, make sure you uncheck the boxes in "rt changeable data" once, so also runtime changeable files are transported initially.

If you do not already have zenon a 7.0 runtime on your RTU, than this needs to be installed first, which requires a zenon 7.0 installation on a PC (can be in demo mode), and a few additional steps.

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Zenon 7.0 license already purchased but the Brodersen RTU will deliver next week. We have to make an advance inquiry before RTU arrives because for sure we will encounter this problem.

We will follow the steps you said above. This information will help us a lot.

Thank you for your support and we highly appreciate your answer.

Hi Mark! RTU will have no zenon 7.0 installed, can you give us procedure on how to install it to RTU. Will it be through usb with zenon 7.0 and install only the runtime edition? Kindly clarify.

    Hi Ron, Hi hoscillada,

There are several ways you can install the zenon CE runtime on a Windows CE device. Ideally of course, your device comes with the zenon runtime pre-installed

First thing you need, is a PC with zenon 7 installed. If you don't already have a PC setup with zenon 7.0, contact your local COPA-DATA representative on how to obtain a copy.

From this PC, copy the file "SysSrvCE.exe" from the CE500_x86 directory (assuming your Brodersen RTU has a x86 processor) to RTU32, using e.g. a USB memory drive, or FTP, or by using a cardreader and copying the file directly to the CF card of the RTU32.

This little application "syssrvce.exe" is the remote component on the RTU32 that will allow the remote installation.

Copy this file into a subdirectory e.g. "zenrt70". Make sure there is a network connection between the PC with the zenon 7 installation and the RTU32. On the RTU32 after it has started, execute the "syssrvce.exe" application, from the combo-box select "tcp/ip", and select "start".

Now your RTU32 is ready and waiting for a connection. This connection is used for remote transport of the runtime as described in my earlier post, but also for the installation of the zenon runtime.

On the PC with the zenon 7 installation, start the "updateCE.exe" from the main installation directory, (not from one of the CE subdirectories) setup your connection (IP address of the RTU32), in the "files" tab, select your components you wish to install, the drivers you plan to use in your project, and the language for the runtime.

Make sure the "update zenon6.ini" is checked, as well as the option "OS system files". Finally, on the "update page", select "start" to establish a connection, and continue all steps to complete the installation and you receive the success message.

The online help also contains a section for the Windows CE installation, and I suggest you have a look at that as well.

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hi,

    No, not quite.

You need a PC with a zenon 7 installation, in order to install the zenon CE runtime on the RTU device. (the runtime executables, and the driver dll files). Normally, this is a process that needs to be done only once, therefore my remark, that of course it would have been nice, if the device would have shipped with the zenon runtime pre-installed

To transport the runtime files (your project), you can use your 6.51 editor and remote transport. This is an action that actually needs to be done every time your project changes. (assuming your RTU32 device is a standalone runtime).

I hope this is more clear now!

    Regards,
    Mark

    Hello Mark,

We have now obtained licensed Zenon 7.0 (runtime & editor) and we used this version in transferring Zenon CE run time and transporting runtime file(project program) on the RTU.we copied the file SysSrvCE from pc, run it and was successfully transfer the Zenon runtime to this device. But in tranporting runtime file(project program), we encounter "error # 2" stating that runtime could not be started.

We just followed the procedures you have given to us but we encounter error. Please see the attached file. Are we miss something? We appreciate your help

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ron
