Default Zenon Process Gateway on Clients

    Hi Support,

Just want to confirm if I can use Zenon Process Gateway and OPC Server on a Machine running Zenon Client Runtime? Or is it necessary that I need to have a connection with Server Runtime?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes, you can use the zenon OPC server or the process gateway on a client. The OPC server itself connects to the local client runtime. The client runtime will then connect to the runtime server to get the updates for variable values over the network and provide these to the locally running OPC server or process gateway.

In fact running an OPC server on a zenon runtime client, on the same PC as the OPC client, is preferred over running the OPC server on the server runtime, and trying to connect an OPC client over DCOM.

The zenon network connection between Server and Client, is much more robust and efficient than OPC over DCOM

    Regards,
    Mark
