    Default [THQ120209YFGP] - IEC 104 with LIAN 98 protocol simulator

    I'm newbie to IEC 104 and currently we're doing integration test with Foxboro RTU. Since the device not arrive yet, we plan to do some confirmance test with protocol simulator and we choose LIAN 98.

    The problem is we don't know whether zenon driver already connected @ not since there are no data shows on the LIAN debug console. As per LIAN 98 doc, Zenon will be the client and LIAN 98 as SLAVE.

    Question :
    1. How do we know the driver is connected based on the information in diagviewer ?
    2. Are we doing it in the right way (Zenon as Master + LIAN 98 as Slave)

    i do not know LIAN 98, but from Foxboro RTU documentation (you sent to support) i can see (Appendix C - Conformance) that this RTU will behave similar to our IEC 60870 Slaves: to Process Gateway or straton I/O driver. Thus to simulate the RTU you don't need LIAN 98.

    Ad2. To communicate with Foxboro RTU you should take the iec870 driver (Master). You can simulate the Slave in straton or Process Gateway (or probably in LIAN 98) but you can also turn the driver from "Hardware mode" to "simulation static". The most work is to configure in another Slave the same data as the RTU will have. I don't think it is worth to program another Slave, better just wait for RTU.

    Ad 1. In iec870 driver the current connection status can be requested via a USINT variable of the type "internal state" (T00). If the value of this variable is 5, this means that a connection is active and that the general interrogation was finished successfully.
    In DiagViewer, per default, you will see only ERROR entries. To log more you must cofigure deeper logging levels (in DiagViewer - client configuration).And you can follow the communication also in Wireshark.

    Is there any specific way to configure the iec104 driver on zenon as a master? because we couldn't find an option to make it as master.

    You have to use IEC 60870-5-101_104 driver

    The iec870 driver is exactly (and "only") a Master in IEC60870 protocol.
    You can only choose if it uses 870-101 (serial) or 870-104 (TCP/IP) Data Layer.

    Now we have the RTU in place. The setting are ASDU = 100 and we set as per required. unfortunately we still unable to connect to that RTU. Fortunately it works with LIAN 98 simulator.

    The only difference we found that in LIAN 98 it shown "APP layer: TypeID 107 -> *E:COT !

    Do we need to create the type ID ? if yes how to do that ?

    There are no INFO @ ERROR messagein diagviewer as well.

    Do you set ip adress of Master IEC_104 in RTU? It is ip adress= ip adress of computer.

    Finally we managed to communicate to the RTU thru importing the RTU variables' into Zenon.

    We also found that during importing variables' we can send alarm @ event from RTU to Zenon. Based on the Wireshark tracing, we found that IEC104 driver of Zenon send GI to RTU to activate connection and Zenon is able to import most of the parameters.

    How can we activate the GI from Zenon to RTU so that RTU will maintain the connection ?

    We couldn't find the way to do it thru variable @ function. Hope you can help us asap.

    Hi,

    I'm not sure if I understand correctly, but importing the variables in the zenon editor is only one step.

    Indeed, the zenon driver sends a general interrogation command in order to be able to automatically create most variables in the zenon editor. After that, the communication is no longer required.

    You can now take these variables, and place them on a screen in the editor. Then you can start the zenon runtime. In the zenon runtime, the driver will again send a GI first, and will keep the connection upright for spontaneous value changes, which will be displayed on the screen.

    Please excuse me if I understood this wrong, but I wasn't sure if you knew that you need to use the zenon runtime.

    We managed to solve the problem by:

    i. Importing all RTU variables into Zenon
    ii. Set all imported variables to PLC marker
    iii. Jaa, everything works like magic.

    Thanks for all support. Now we're working on sending command to RTU

    p/s : i found that i cannot create command using trial edition and the Command menu and option not there. is it true ?
