    Default Adding Datasource in VSTA

I want to add a data connection in the VSTA database explorer but i've got some errors.
Sometimes I recieve the error that the database is in use.
And sometimes I get the following error:

    Unable to add data connection.

Could not load file or assembly
    'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc, Version=,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified.

When I search for detail information about this issue some forums advice me to install the SQL Server Management Objects package for SQL server 2005.

    My first question:
    - is it possible to add a data connection?
    - can I install the SQL Server Management Objects package?

Default Re: Adding Datasource in VSTA

This message appears most likely due to the fact that VSTA 2.0 is based on MS Visual Studio 2008, and the Microsoft SQL Server Express instance installed with zenon (zenon_dev) is a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express instance. (instead of a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express)

First you need to install: "Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types"

Then you need to install: "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Objects"

These installations are part of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 feature pack and can be downloaded here:

After a restart of the zenon editor you should be able to add the data source without the error message.

note, that in VSTA it is not possible to select "Microsoft SQL Server" from the list of available data sources. In the proffessional versions of Microsoft Visual studio this data provider is available.

However after you have configured the data source to use a (new) local .mdf file, for the "Microsoft SQL Server Database File" data source, you can reconfigure the connection string for the dataset, to directly connect to the database.

you could e.g. configure the data set with a local (detached) copy as a .mdf file, and then afterwards connect to the SQL server.
