Hello Everybody,

Occasionally, you might need a help of Diagnosis Viewer (Diagviewer) when facing an issue that needs troubleshooting.

What is Diagnosis Viewer?

Diagviewer is installed together with zenon products (located at COPA-DATA Startup Tool > Tools) and displays the log files created by COPA-DATA programs (logging clients), such as the editor, runtime, drivers, process gateway (EXE/processes), etc., that send their log messages to the zenLogSrv (logging server) - installed and started automatically as a Windows service.

Configuration of the logging clients

The logging clients and zenLogSrv can both be configured in Diagviewer settings to log specific modules and message levels. While normally it is not necessary to change configuration of the zenLogSrv, it might be necessary to adapt the parameterization of the logging clients depending the circumstances. For that the respective process must be running when opening the Clients list dialog in Diagviewer.
By default the logging clients only log ERRORS for all their modules, so that when it is required to log a process in detail, for instance, for a deeper analysis, the respective logging client can be configured separately by clicking the list of parameters button. When changing the log depth of a logging client it is recommended to increase (e.g. 2560) the maximal buffered records setting to avoid the presence of buffer overflows in the log files.
Please consider that the parameterization of the logging clients does not affect only the online, but also the log capture continuously done in the background by the zenLogSrv and it can affect the overall performance of the computer, so that when finishing troubleshooting is strongly recommended to restore back the default logging client settings.

Logs

Diagviewer can connect directly to the zenLogSrv and display online log data or open historical log files created in the background by the zenLogSrv service - by default, these files are saved in %ProgramData%\COPA-DATA\LOG\ folder and are included in the SIC output file when executing a SIC full scan-log.

Tips and tricks

- When capturing an online log make sure it includes the start of the processes logged (e.g. runtime, drivers, etc.) and, even better, their close.
- The timestamps displayed are in UTC to allow comparing events that occur between computers in different time zones.
- Every log displayed in Diagviewer can be saved to a TXT file and reopened later.
- It is possible to select the processes, modules and time interval shown in the log by changing the respective pre-filters in the toolbar in the Diagviewer.
- The column filters support regular expressions.
- You can learn more about Diagviewer in the zenon documentation topic Manual > Tools > Diagnosis Viewer.

Finally, I kindly ask you to write back in this Forum thread when you have any open point to discuss related to Diagviewer.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,
Support Team

Hello!

We are using the Diagnosis Viewer very often and I think it is a great tool.

Two points I would like to ask/see:

When opening the Diagnosis Viewer every time we have to make the same three steps before we can start to analyses the log:

Add all columns with entry
Remove all empty columns
All column widths automatic

Would be great to have this done automatically or just combined in one button. I think you colleagues of the support teams would be happy too...

The coloring of the entries in the log seems to be different every time online logging is started?

Would be great to have the possibility to define a default filter configuration for colors and on top to define a custom color filter.

Regards, HP
